Tutor CPD
Supporting Professional Development for Tutors
The College is re-launching its CPD voucher scheme for 2010 / 2011. College tutors can access up to £250 worth of professional development in this academic year. The voucher can be used for training or self-study activities that contribute to your professional development as a tutor with YMCA Wales Community College.
You can redeem the voucher against training that relates to:
· The development of your subject knowledge.
· The improvement of your teaching skills. This could include developing your use of technology to prepare learning resources or to enhance delivery.
· The development of expertise in key curriculum priority areas such as basic skills, ESDGC or bilingualism.
¨ The development of other relevant skills such as first aid or health and safety.
The professional development may take the form of a training course, self-study or e-learning resources. You may choose to redeem the voucher against the cost of a single activity or several smaller activities. If you would like the College to contribute to the cost of your professional development activities, please contact Becky on 02920 755444 or at
The College is also keen to explore alternative approaches to CPD such as coaching, peer mentoring or engagement with professional networks. Please contact Nicola Campbell on 02920 755444 or at
n.campbell@ymca-wales.ac.uk if this is something you would like to pursue.
Possible CPD Opportunities
Communication Skills Day
23 November 2010, Swansea
£70 per person including lunch and certification
Would you like to learn how to communicate effectively with clients that have specific communication needs (e.g. deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, or deafened people, or even those who have had a stroke or operation that affects communication)?
Have you thought about learning British Sign Language but don’t know whether it would be useful or not?
What is Makaton and Sign Supported English, and how do they differ from British Sign Language?
How can you make your AGM, conference, or other meetings accessible to people with specific communication needs?
If these are questions that interest you why not come on this one day course to find out the answers. During the day you will see demonstrations of different communication methods and try some out for yourself. You will learn the BSL alphabet and the Deafblind alphabet as well as some useful basic signs. The day will be light-hearted and fun but with serious practical benefits for your interaction with clients.
