National research estimates that a quarter of all people in Wales experience difficulty with skills such as literacy and numeracy. Try our checklist of skills for learning and work. The checklist allows you to assess your confidence levels with English, Maths and IT skills.

Many local authorities and colleges provide courses in skills for learning and work. These are often offered free in community venues such as local libraries. Contact your local authority for details.

Visit your local Job Centre or Careers Centre

Your local job centre plus may be able to point you in the direction of a course that can help improve your skills. To find out more information on jobs, courses and services, visit www.direct.gov.uk  

 
Visit the BBC Website

The BBC website contains lots of useful resources to help improve Maths, English and Computer Skills.

 - www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise is a free service that provides worksheets, activities, games and quizzes to help improve your English and Maths skills.

 - www.bbc.co.uk/computertutor is a series of interactive games designed to teach IT skills.

 - www.bbc.co.uk/webwise contains help and tips for using the internet.

 
Use the National Testing Toolkit

This online assessment will give you an idea of where there is room for improvement in your skills. Some of the questions are quite difficult, but don’t be put off – it’s a good way to find out where you need to improve. To use the toolkit click here
